First Half Action

Uruguay started to make some promising runs into Spain‘s half around the 16th minute, with Araujo attempting to penetrate the defense. However, Spain‘s defense held firm. Lamine Yamal also had a cross deflected for a corner, which Uruguay cleared.
As the first half progressed, Spain‘s Lamine Yamal had a shot blocked. Fernando Muslera, Uruguay‘s goalkeeper, was called into action around the 25th minute to smother a cross from Llorente. A drinks break followed.
After the break, Nunez found space on the wing for Uruguay, but his cross was claimed by Unai Simon. Uruguay showed some improved play in the minutes following the re-start. Canobbio was fouled by Baena, resulting in a free-kick for Uruguay, which Spain cleared after a moment of uncertainty from Unai Simon.

Second Half Developments
At the start of the second half, Rochet replaced Muslera in goal for Uruguay. Uruguay showed a bit more energy in the early minutes of the second half, but their efforts to connect a through ball between De La Cruz and Canobbio were unsuccessful.
Lamine Yamal was fouled by Sanabria around the 55th minute, resulting in a booking for Sanabria. Dani Olmo made a run into the area around the 63rd minute, with appeals for a free-kick just outside the box, but play continued. Shortly after, Lamine Yamal set up Dani Olmo, whose shot went over the bar.
Uruguay‘s performance in the match, and in their other two World Cup games, led to the assessment that they were heading out of the tournament.
